The Curaçao Carnival
In the 19th century the people of Curaçao adopted the motherland’s carnival tradition. It’s a feast at the beginning of the catholic Lent, a period of forty days before Easter in which catholics fast.
To start with, Curaçao celebrated carnival in a modest way with some masked balls and processions.
Only after 1969 carnival became the flamboyant Latin feast it still is today.
The Curaçao carnival lasts almost three months. It starts in January and ends only by late February or early March. Come and party, dance, eat. It’s all about seeing and being seen.
If you happen to stay in our vacation villa during this periode, we can give you all the information about all the processions and feasts across the island.
