Landhuis Jan Kok

Landhuis Jan Kok is one of the oldest landhuizen, the country estates of the plantation owners of Curaçao.

The present landhuis dates from 1840 and is the replacement of an older landhuis that was built in the same spot in the early  18th century.

Jan Kok was one of the most cruel slave owners of Curaçao. His ghost is said to be haunting the landhuis, where just before the abolition of slavery a hundred slaves still worked at the salt plantation.

With its whitewashed walls and its red saddle roof, the landhuis looks very attractive. Inside you’ll see an orgy of colours in Nena Sanchez’ gallery.

Nena is a well known local artist, whom you can find at Jan Kok most Thursdays. More information to be found in the brocure in the vacation villa.

The terrace in front of the house commands a fine view of the Zoutpannen and the Sint-Mariebaai. On the left side you see a cluster of houses, to which the deep blue of the vacation villa’s roof brings a striking touch of colour.
